Romie the Homie

That's our nickname for Roman. You know, I was thinking last night just how fitting that is for him. One minute he's Prince Roman, the next our homeboy street dog. This summer he will have been with us for 3 years, but sometimes he still reverts to what obviously was his stray behavior. Here are some examples:

1. His only alpha behavior in the house is over the food and water dishes. Emmett lets him do this, as he doesn't understand what the big deal about dog food is anyway. As I type, Roman is munching on kibble and Emmett is sitting under Nicolas' high chair eyeing *his* food.

2. He appears to find snails, slugs and worms a delicacy.

3. He is mighty fierce towards all other dogs except Emmett. Oh, and he likes to tell the rabbits who's boss, too. He's like a cartoon dog. You know...the ones who bark and their whole body jumps up and down while he does it? He obviously believes he is very scary and vicious, but other than some small children, none seem convinced.

4. His favorite pasttime continues to be chasing light reflections. Emmett just looks at him like he's nuts.

5. He tries to use, um, sexual favors to win over Emmett's affections. Enough said about that one.

So, I guess you can take the dog off the street, but it's hard to get the street out of the dog. LOL It does make me wonder just how long he was on the streets, or if he was just so neglected and bored where he left from that he developed these behaviors. We'll never know. Anyway, we just love him to death and he certainly is a loving boy who keeps life interesting around here.
